Over the past several decades, UC Berkeley has transformed into a world leader for innovation, entrepreneurship, and its startup companies have revolutionized our world. This transformation has advanced the university’s mission of research, education, and public service in numerous ways. How did this happen? Come learn about the evolution of Berkeley’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) ecosystem, and how Berkeley became the world leader among universities in entrepreneurship and startup formation.

Darren Cooke is UC Berkeley’s interim chief innovation and entrepreneurship officer. He is also the executive director of the Life Sciences Entrepreneurship Center, faculty at the Haas School of Business, and led the Bio Track at Berkeley’s SkyDeck startup accelerator. He teaches entrepreneurship at Haas and in programs for the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation. In a past life as an attorney, he led an IP legal team at Bio-Rad Laboratories, and was a life sciences patent litigator. Before that he was an engineer developing cochlear implants at UCSF.
