Visualizing Place: Maps from the Bancroft Collection

The exhibit highlights the Bancroft’s diverse and extensive map collection: contemporary maps displaying cultural, social, and imaginary narratives, maps that show California as an island, and more. Maps help us understand our own neighborhoods, our broader region, and our global environment. They can be hand-drawn or digitally produced. There is no right way to look at a place in time. Together, these selections help us to visualize the familiar through a different lens. Curators José Adrián Barragán-Álvarez and David Faulds will be on hand to give walkthroughs and answer questions.
